Bumble Berry Crumble

Hey guys! Bringing you another sweet treat tonight. I found this recipe on Pinterest and thought it sounded perfect for all my Saskatoon berries. Some people might not know what bumble berry is. All it really means is mixed berries. You can use any fruit you have kicking around in this recipe. We were out at my in-laws acreage and they had a ton of Saskatoon berries so we picked a huge bucket full. This recipe requires 4 cups of fruit. I used 2 cups of Saskatoon berries, 1 cup of blueberries and 1 cup of mixed berries I had in the freezer.

In a medium sized bowl mix the sugar, corn starch and salt together. Then pour the mixture over the fruit.

Stir until mixed well then pour into a deep dish or 9×9 square baking pan.

Next you will make the crumble mixture. In a medium bowl mix rolled oats, flour (I used whole wheat flour instead of white), baking powder, brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon together. Using your fingers rub the butter into the dry ingredient mixture until it becomes crumbly.

When it is crumbly you can sprinkle it over the fruit and press down slightly.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until the crumble topping is slightly brown and the fruit is bubbling.

This was really good and easy to make. Our whole family enjoyed it especially with soft vanilla ice cream or yogurt.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp corn starch
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 cups mixed berries or chopped fruit
  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup of flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare fruit layer by mixing the sugar, corn starch, and salt together.
  2. Pour this mixture over the berries and stir well.
  3. Pour berries into a 9×9 baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl mix together rolled oats, flour, baking powder, brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  5. Using your fingers rub the butter into the dry ingredient mixture until it is crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble over the fruit and press down slightly.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until lightly brown with bubbly fruit.
